Catalonia holds the first Biosphere Destination certification as an integral tourist destination, awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute, an organization supported by UNESCO. In this regard, the Catalunya Convention Bureau (CCB) is identifying and promoting practices which make optimal use of environmental resources, respect the socio-cultural authenticity of host communities and provide socio-economic benefits to all stakeholders that are fairly distributed. The CCB is also collaborating with SpinMice, a project aiming to analyse how the business tourism industry of Barcelona is facing sustainability.
