“Best Destination Promotion” at the MPI Iberian Awards

Maria Sánchez Quintana, Promotion Executive at the Sitges Convention Bureau, has been awarded the Best Destination Promotion, which according to MPI, is a recognition for boosting the promotion of a destination as a receptive place for MICE tourism, with a solid strategy, in a creative or distinctive manner, with passion and commitment, achieving positive results for the destination. This award comes in the year of the 20th anniversary of Sitges CB and recognizes the efforts made to establish Sitges as one of the leading destinations for meetings and congress tourism, being the favorite Catalan territory for hosting meetings after Barcelona.

The jury meeting for the VI edition of the “MPI Iberian Awards” took place on March 20th in Barcelona, where distinguished professionals from the industry gathered to deliberate on the finalists in various categories. The winners were announced on April 11th in Barcelona, during the GMID (Global Meetings Industry Day) celebrated by the “MPI Iberian Chapter” at the TBS Education – Barcelona business school’s campus. Our sincere congratulations to the other finalists Ana Alonso (CEO at Spain is Excellence) and Jorge Treceño (Legacy Manager at Madrid Convention Bureau).

The creation of the MPI Iberian Awards by the Iberian Chapter of MPI (Meeting Professionals International) is a direct response to the relevance and global impact that the Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) aims to highlight in the meetings and events industry. These awards, established in 2019, represent a significant effort to recognize and celebrate excellence and innovation in the MICE sector in Spain and Portugal.

Founded in 1972, MPI is the largest association of event and meeting professionals in the world, with more than 17,000 members spread across 90 chapters and clubs in 70 countries. It provides innovative and relevant education, networking opportunities, business exchanges, and acts as a prominent voice for the promotion and growth of the industry.

In Spain, the MPI Iberian Chapter was created as a chapter and official representative of MPI in February 2006, later becoming the representative of MPI in Portugal as well. Today, it has more than 60 affiliated members, industry professionals, and continues to grow, with an optimal proportion of event organizers and suppliers at 50-50.
